…A layer of dust left over from those chilly winter months!

Yes, Spring is arguably the optimum time for selling, but it’s important to get your Spring cleaning underway before putting your house on the market.

We have scoured every corner of the internet to find the best Spring cleaning tips around so you don’t have to!

So, get your sponge and mop at the ready and listen up!

  1. Martin & Co Estate Agents: “Schedule in a few days to really do a good job, and to do everything on your list. To stay focussed and enthusiastic, it is best to tackle one room at a time, rather than flit from one room to another.”

  2. Peter Alan Estate Agents: “Focus on cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms as these are the areas which, if dirty, will put off home buyers the most. Don’t forget to dust surfaces and clean all floors as well.”

  3. Molly Maid: “Limit spring cleaning products to a quality window/glass cleaner, all-purpose cleaner, tile/grout cleaner and toilet cleaner.”

  4. Oakleys Estate Agents: “Baking soda (75mls) in 200mls of vinegar is a powerful but environmentally friendly drain-cleaning solution, following a run of boiling water.”

  5. Clutton Cox: “Don’t forget the front garden! If you are not a keen gardener get someone in to help as the cost will be insignificant if you achieve the best price for your home. The Garden should be resplendent with Spring colour and if not, a Spring Garden Clutton Coxtrip to your nearby Garden Centre will hopefully inspire you.”

  6. JDG Estate Agents: “Wipe the light bulbs, polish your taps, clean the windows, wash the front door. Don’t forget the skirting boards which can be a magnet for accumulating dirt and dust.  Your house needs to gleam. When a house is clean the light bounces around better.  Don’t forget to keep your kitchen work surfaces polished.  Buyers often run their hands over them!”

  7. Good House Keeping: “Fresh lemons smell clean so try this: Cut one in half, put the pieces in a microwave-safe bowl with water to cover, and cook on High in your microwave for two to three minutes. The steam will soften hardened food inside the oven while you enjoy the citrus scent.”

  8. Right Move: “When sorting through things to chuck, don’t throw away old bed linens and towels – save them for when you move. They could be used as dust sheets, protective wrappings for furniture or covering the carpets if you need to do any painting.”

  9. Edward Mellor Estate Agents: “Finish off any DIY tasks and leave your viewers free to focus on the positives of the property rather than on the repairs that would need doing. If you’re looking to redecorate, use neutral colours which are not likely to divide opinion. A surveyor will spot a dodgy job straight away, so bring in a professional for any plumbing, building or electrical work you are not confident doing yourself.”

  10. Hawes & Co Estate Agents: “Clean your walls, use a sponge and some soapy water and gently rub off any marks, sugar soap is really good too. If you would like to clean light switches then use a damp cloth or a cleaning wipe.”

  11. GYCT Designs: “Blinds can get dusty and grimy. The best way to clean them is with a sock, white vinegar and water.”

  12. How to Build It Website: “If pet hair around your home drives you mad, use a squeegee to remove the hair from your carpet.”

  13. Listotic Website: “If you have hard water stains on the chrome fittings in your shower, simply rub with half a lemon, let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse with warm water.”

  14. Premeditated Leftovers Website: “Don’t forget to clean behind appliances. Pull out your refrigerator, stove, washer and dryer.  Sweep and mop well to remove dust and dirt that has built up.”

  15. Michael Bruce, CEO of Purple Bricks: “Prior to any viewings, ask a friend round to your home, preferably on a sunny day, to carry out a mock viewing. As they walk around they will help you identify any small problems you may not have noticed previously.”
