Clutton Cox, Solicitors, Chipping Sodbury: 205 years on and counting!

Paul Hajek | 8 Sep 2009

I read in the Bristol Law Society magazine Legal Life of the closure by merger of the Bristol firm of Solicitors, Clutton Moore and Lavington.

With the closure goes a link in the history of my firm with theirs, for the common denominator was Walter Clutton.

Walter Clutton practiced as a Solicitor in Bristol in the late nineteenth century. He had added his name to the law firm which Thomas Jacques founded in Bristol in 1794.

Various incarnations and permutations finally led to a breakaway firm of solicitors being set up by Edgar Roy Cox, when he moved and set up in Yate in 1967 as Clutton Cox & Co.

The law offices of Clutton Cox, moved to its present site in High Street, Chipping Sodbury in 1982.

We dropped the “&Co” in 1991 when we underwent what is called in marketing speak a “branding exercise”

There are now no remnants of the original names amongst the solicitors at Clutton Cox.

But, the solicitors, who are now with Clutton Cox, Paul Hajek, Jane Macdonald and Irina Gorshkova are happy to continue the tradition of offering legal services to Chipping Sodbury, Yate, Bristol and South Gloucestershire area and beyond.

After all we are only 205 years young!
