Net A Lawyer: It’s Catching

How the public choose a lawyer is the subject of further research released this week.

Commissioned by a comparison website, and reported in the Law Gazette, a YouGov Poll by online solicitor directory www.legallybetter.com found that over one fifth or 21% of those polled found their Conveyancing Solicitor or Wills Solicitor by using search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing.

This research is at variance with earlier research this year by the Ministry of Justice which put that figure at a mere 3%. Although my thoughts on this were that sloppy language was used in eliciting responses.

The figures for people searching online for their Conveyancing Solicitor or a Solicitor for their Wills or to , also included people looking for other legal services as well

This latest research is in line with research commissioned last year by the Solicitors Regulation Authority where the percentage of the public looking for legal services including Conveyancing and Wills was put at 26%.

By far and away the majority of people still rely upon personal recommendation from family friends or colleagues when choosing their lawyers. 61% in this latest poll.

As I have said previously the internet is now a growing world for information about law firms which has hitherto been silent.

Searching for a Conveyancing Solicitor or a Solicitor to write your Will or help in obtaining Probate is far from on a par with personal recommendation.

However choosing your Solicitor or Lawyer from information available online including testimonials has come an awful long way in a short period of time.

What is for sure is that percentage of the public choosing their lawyer on line is set to increase.
